As this is a hands-on session please remember to have your laptop ready!

If you have an interest in testing web applications, you might have heard about or come across Cypress. Cypress is a testing tool that can test anything that runs in a browser – a go-to tool for the modern test engineer or SDET.

When it comes to testing, it is just as important to have test automation. If not, your tests may never get run and do their job of checking your application behaves correctly.

However, good practice is not about just shoving your tests through your pipeline, crossing your fingers and hoping your job's a good’un. Nope, you also need good reporting that will allow your devs and testers to be able to easily see the issue to reduce the feedback loop.

This is where Cypress Dashboard comes in. This dashboard gives teams a way of reporting test results to the cloud, AND there is a free version that we will be making use of during this Playground. Bonus!

During this Playground you will:

  • Learn how to write basic tests with cypress for a react application
  • Report test results to Cypress Dashboard

o From local machine
o From container
o From CI pipeline

  • Set up webhooks to your GitHub repo with build failure and test alerts

You will need:

  • A laptop

o With Docker,
o An Interactive Development environment (I will use VS Code)

  • A GitHub account,
  • An email that you can use to sign up to Cypress Dashboard.

OR:

  • Use our provisioned instance from your laptop,
  • We will use Vim for editing the code,
  • A GitHub account,
  • An email that you can use to sign up to Cypress Dashboard.
