Abstract - Detection of various types of road defects is an interesting development in Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence. By using object detection, at RoadMetrics we classify different types of road defects from early-stage cracks to final stage potholes as well as speed breakers and manholes. Smartphone sensor vibrations are used as an additional means of data for validation. Using SVM, we classify vibrations by finding patterns in road defect vibrations

These classes of models have a variety of applications such as medical diagnosis, fault diagnosis, in computer vision: image segmentation, 3D reconstruction, in NLP: name-entity recognition, topic modeling, time series problems like stock market predictions amongst many others.
