SRE 102: Monitoring Alerting

In the first SRE posts, we covered how we attain visibility and observability at CB Insights. Monitoring is a subset of observability. At CB Insights, we are proud of how rarely we get paged with alerts that are not actionable.

Do it too much and you generate a lot of noise, do it too little and you might never know what is happening to the service/application.

In the above image, you see a version of our service map which acts as a high-level overview of what is talking to what in the grand scheme of things.
