AI Image Generation Models and the Ethics of ‘Data Laundering’

The recent emergence of https://thenewstack.io/avocado-chairs-at-the-intersection-of-human-language-and-neural-networks/ like https://www.midjourney.com/ and https://github.com/CompVis/stable-diffusion are allowing people to conjure up incredible works of digital art within seconds, just by typing in a short descriptive text prompt — for example, it can be as simple as something like “a wizard casting a spell on top of a mountain.” And now, these new generative tools are brewing up a whole wave of concerns around AI ethics.

Beyond copyright infringement, and potentially threatening human artists’ livelihoods, there will likely be wider, unforeseen ripple effects in the industry due to AI.
